This is an accelerated course in the Node.js server-side language designed for those who are interested in increasing their programming skills without a large time investment. Designed to be completed over the course of one week (15 academic hours), the Node.js course is ideal for students that are looking to build upon their existing JavaScript experience. Previous experience with Node.js is not required.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

This Sprint is a short crash course to get you up and running using Node.JS.  You will learn to use node, how to build a Node website, how to interact with Databases and APIs, and how Node works.  It is designed for the student that has some JavaScript experience, but no Node.JS experience.

AUDIENCE:

This class is geared towards students that have never used Node.JS before and have little to no understanding of server-side languages.

RECOMMENDED AND/OR REQUIRED PREREQUISITE(S):

Students that take this course should come in with the following:
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS
  • Some understanding of JavaScript (for example, jQuery)
  • Some familiarity with version control, like SVN or GitHub

TOPIC/LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

In this hands-on training you will:
  • Understand the usefulness of GIT repositories while using NPM for app management
  • Build a basic Node App
  • Build an Express website
  • Use Sails.js to create web applications
  • Understand production deployment with Node
